Technology

At Charlotte Progressive Dentistry, we use the latest technology to make treatment more convenient and successful for our patients! Here are some of the modern features that our dental practice offers:

Intraoral Camera

At Charlotte Progressive Dentistry, we understand that seeing is believing. We have a specially designed intraoral camera that allows us to show you what we see during your exam. From gum recession to cracked teeth, we understand that you want to know why we recommend certain treatment.

We use an intraoral camera during all new patient exams to provide image support for clinical diagnostics and patient education and communication.

Low-Radiation Digital X-Rays

Digital x-rays are an important diagnostic tool. While many patients today are concerned with the amount of radiation produced from x-rays, digital x-rays have some clear advantages over traditional films:

Less radiation - Today's digital imaging reduces the amount of radiation a patient is exposed to by up to 90%.
Shorter dental appointments - Digital x-rays allow us to review your x-rays almost instantly. No waiting for traditional developing!
Higher quality images - Once on our computer screen, we can enlarge or magnify the image for a better view of the tooth's structure. That means more accurate diagnosis, allowing us to treat conditions in the earliest stages. We can also print copies of digital x-rays for your records.
Transferring dental records - Your digital x-rays can also be mailed to a dental specialist for immediate review. Digital x-rays reduce the time and expense involved with record transfer.

Environmentally friendly - Digital dental x-rays are better for the environment because we eliminate the need for chemicals used in traditional film development.

Quieter Handpieces

Reduced noise - When restorative dentistry is necessary, we use quieter handpieces to get the job done. Our handpieces are approximately 65% quieter.

Accuracy - Because of reduced vibration, you will have greater comfort and more accurate preps. That means better dentistry for you!

Less time in the chair - Because of the engineering and design, greater accuracy leads to shorter appointment times. Patients love less time in the chair!

Laser Dentistry

Lasers use light energy to assist us in soft tissue procedures. Old methods involve cutting tissue, stitches, bleeding, increased healing times, and scar tissue. With lasers, we can remove or shape tissue as necessary. Lasers can be especially useful in orthodontics to assist teeth in eruption in order to progress treatment. We can also use lasers to sculpt overgrown tissue painlessly and with faster healing times than traditional gum surgery. Some other advantages include:

  • Less pain in many instances.
  • Reduces anxiety
  • Minimizes bleeding and swelling
  • Preserves more healthy tooth structure during cavity removal

Televisions In Each Room

We believe that comfort is important! Being able to watch your favorite shows during treatment can help to reduce your dental anxiety. We also have a private consultation room with televisions to show you what we see during our exam and for you to ask any questions you might have about your conditions or your treatment. We value your privacy.

Velscope- Oral Cancer Screening

The VELscope® Vx Enhanced Oral Assessment System centers on a handheld scope that is used by dentists to help visualize oral tissue abnormalities, including cancer and pre-cancer.

The VELscope® Vx system is an adjunctive device which means it must be used together with and as a supplement to the traditional intra and extraoral head and neck exam. Unlike other adjunctive devices used for oral examinations, the VELscope® Vx does not require any dyes or prolonged testing procedures. In fact, a VELscope® Vx exam can be performed in the dentist's office during a routine hygiene exam in about two minutes.
